I should also add that I would be open to any ideas on how to photograph coins better....as I found out it's not as easy as I thought!

Marvelous finding that old silver half! As to better photos, your camera may have a macro (close-up) setting which will result in a crisper, more detailed photo as long as you don't get TOO close. Photographing outdoors in good light helps too, as will a contrasting color for your background.

Okay, so I'm pretty good with photos, but after a year of detecting and enjoying t-netters' finds, I still haven't figured out how to get my avatar and pics of my finds on t-net, wah! lol. Happy Hunts to you! Andi

^ what he said^ plus something that helped me in my photos is to use a maglight for extra light from a side angle and turn off the flash option with my little digital camera. (I'd have my girlfriend hold the light and take a few pics with the flash off) if you leave the flash on and get too close to the coin it will cause it to be completely reflected out of the picture....anyhow -hope that helps some

Nice half, love finding them. As for photos, I find that putting coins on my scanner works great. You get every detail.

Thanks for all the photo tips! Now if I can just manage to follow the work crew along the sidewalk replacement for a few more great finds!

nice silver coin ...congrats ! :icon_thumleft:
