These are the some of the keepers from the last month of the year. I hunted Christmas day of course, and was given some awesome presents. The silver clog clasp hallmarked, PS, Philip Syng. I believe this to be one of the three silversmiths in the Syng family that resided in Pennsylvania. There are no examples of this hallmark, so I'm leaning towards the youngest that had died without any known hallmark. A silver clog clasp was on my wish list for a long time, I was elated when this baby came home. On the same day I pulled a 1803 Draped Bust large cent, and a very large gemmed silver cufflink. I just about fell over when that one popped out. Its silver backed and not a diamond but a cut stone, quartz or zircon, 18th to 19th century. Very happy with my gifts. A brooach bearing the steam ship, Republic, a silver ring with inlaid turquoise with an Ant hallmark, another early masonic cuff button, and the 1731 to 1735 cut Seville 1 reale came a few days after. My first old 25 key, a gold earring, silver oval cuff, blue glass cuff, and a King George the II counter marked coin. My second counter marked coin this year. Its been a great year with two gold coins and handfuls of other great keepers. Happy hunting all. Art

The stone is not glass or paste. There is internal feathering off of the girdle, if glass it would have fractured. Its up there on the Mohs scale, not paste, no bubbles, and scratches glass. I believe its either quartz or zircon.

Thanks, understand you like the counter marked coin but not sure what picture you wish to see. Here is a pic of the obverse.

Killer group of finds Arty. Love the silver cloak clasp, the inlaid ring, the key, the jeweled cufflink, and, well I like it all. Cut silver coins are fairly rare out your way.

The steamship Republic piece, do think that is the same Republic that sank with all that gold from California?

I found a linked pair of those Masonic cufflinks a couple years ago. Wish mine had a nice smooth patina like yours!

Thanks Steve, had a great ending to the year with some great finds. You still have a complete pair of cuffs, and looking good. I do think its the same Republic, matches the pictures. It went down into 1700 feet of water off the Georgia coast with all the loot intended to rebuild the south. It says it was renamed from the Louisiana, to the Republic. I wonder if it was one of the steamers carrying people to and from Pa. to Jersey. A souvenir purchased on the ship itself?

Well under close magnification I found that the third hallmark is an Indian with headdress. What I thought was a hammer in his hand is a deer scull with antlers on a handle. I wasn't sure what was in front of him, I see possibly a bore, or animal of some sort. Feedback is welcome. I'm going blind trying to discern the object. On the Indians bottom right side a horse. I laughed when I realized the little scene this artist captured in the smallest detail, very cool. I'm comfortable thinking this is indeed Philip Syng Jr's sons missing hallmark. I have already emailed this info to the hallmark expert at the Boston Museum, waiting for a reply.
