Hunted the yard of a 1940's house today. There was an earlier house there from the 1800's but it was torn down about 60 years ago. There's lots of trash and also large iron targets so it will take me forever to completely hunt it. I found 65 cents in clad, and a 1922 silver dollar. I'm new to the hobby, so any tips on cleaning it would be appreciated! Also turned up a 1945 Australian Florin. Someone has bent it into a bottle cap shape. Kind of an odd thing to turn up in rural Tennessee. Does anyone have any ideas about the age of the candle holder? It appears to be solid brass, and looks like it may have had a reflector on top that has been broken off.

Nice finds... Virgin Olive Oil works really well for cleaning, without damaging the coin. But it does take some time and just needs to soak in it.

Thanks everyone. I will try the olive oil. My family lived in the newer house for several years, and my dad remembers my cousin sneaking out some of Grandma's old coins and burying them. Needless to say, he was in big trouble! I hope I can find some more of them. I'm thinking someone must have brought that Australian coin home from the service.

Nice silvers - as has already been mentioned, someone was well on their way to making a coin ring
from the florin - If I were you ,i'd go ahead and complete it - take a look at the videos on Youtube
I made one from a 1964 Kennedy half - and wear it all the time - If you decide to complete it ,
need any info - don't hesitate to pm me . Argentium.
