nomad 11, are you referring to US silverware or abroad?
Either way, many great sites exist identifying "maker's marks".
Site's that sell replacement pieces are a good start.

Just google Sterling Hallmarks And then you will get what you are looking for, I assume you mean Hallmarks when you say stamping. There are numerous sites on both foreign and domestic hallmarks in both Sterling and Silverplate along with Makers marks, Patterns & etc. Good Luck!
