Pretty.

Whats a sixpence? Is that like 6 pennies? Or would that be equal to a dime, a nickle or what?

Never understood the British monetary system....

Never understood the British monetary system....

Pre dicimal coinage, 12 pence = 1 shilling, 20 shilings = 1 pound, 240 pence = 1 Pound. Pre decimal face value was about $3.00 US to one English Pound. There was a farthing 1/4 of a penny, a half penny, a penny, a threepence coin and a sixpence coin. Then there was a shilling a two shilling piece and the a half Crown this coin was a two shilling and sixpence coin.
hope it helps

NICE Elizabeth I Sixpence. I dug a Lizzy Shilling last year here in Virginia, I believe Colin said it was a Type 1 and dated to 1561. A local guy dug a hoard of them 30+.

Or about 23mm, just thought I would ask as there are 3 Elizabeth coins that have the Rose behing head, Shilling Sixpence and Threepence, but yours is as you say a Sixpence, it's a while since I had a Sixpence :-\

Nice Find, keep going a Golds nt far away :icon_thumleft:
