Hello, This is my very first time on this site, so please bear with me.
My husband and I love to go metal detecting.
The very first time we tried our own backyard, these are 2 of the things we found.
One is a silver ring. We have been told that it is the Cross Of Lorraine,
the symbol of The French Freedom Fighters, in WWII.
But we don't know this to be a fact.
The other is a medal that says United Confederate Veterans Reunion.
It was completely folded together (see picture) when we found it.
We would love to have any information that any of you can give us.
Please excuse the pictures, I've gotta practice my closeups.
Thanks, donnaray

Re: Silver Ring and Civil War Medal

Those are two nice finds. I have a book that has a list of civil war reunion metals.
I can not see details on your picture could you post what is written on it.
Also what state it was found in would help as well. Maybe I can find out some
information for you.

Re: Silver Ring and Civil War Medal

Thanks so much for replying.
The medal reads "United Confederate Veterans Reunion".
It was found in Whitehaven, a suburb of Memphis,TN.
The land was owned by Colonel Francis White,
who was an early settler and major property owner here.
He owned the land we live on, and Whitehaven was named after him.
We'd appreciate any information you can give us.
Thanks

Re: Silver Ring and Civil War Medal

I was unable to find this one in my book.
Could be a southern cross of honor, only 2,500 where made in 1900
It could be worth hundreds of dollars 3 or 4 any way maybe more

The United Confederate Veterans badge (missing a "Souvenir" hanger bar at the top) is from the UCV reunion held in Mobile, Alabama, April 26-28, 1910.

Although an excellent find, this item is not a Southern Cross of Honor medal.

As posted earlier, it is a United Confederate Veterans badge (missing a "Souvenir" hanger bar at the top) from the UCV reunion held in Mobile, Alabama, April 26-28, 1910.

An identical 1910 UCV reunion badge is illustrated on p. 37 of Badges and Ribbons of the United Confederate Veterans and Sons of Confederate Veterans by Lynn Jackson Shaw.

Compare it carefully with the Southern Cross of Honor shown on the left, below:

You have no idea how much I appreciate this.
We found these, maybe 10-12 years ago, and as much as we love history,
and wanted to find out about them, something else always came first.
The man who built our house in 1939, was in WWII,
and we always assumed that the ring was his.
As soon as the weather cools off a little more, we have a great place
to check out. We own an old school that was built in 1915, a 35,000 SF,
school about an hour from Memphis that we're renovating to become our
permanent home. The school closed in 1972, and then was used for a
few different businesses. It sits on 3 acres.
We may have to do that THIS weekend.
Thanks Again! You were SO helpful.

You both are very lucky first time you got these type of rings.
