Today was a slow day, but alas, I was able to get out with my buddies Charlie and Bart.

My big surprise if the day was the silvered crotal bell. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1479607287.286267.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1479607301.314772.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1479607312.127458.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1479607322.799232.jpg

My references suggest a range of dates on the bell, but with the silvered finish I'm thinking early-mid 1800's. And if I were to guess between the two, probably 1850's.

Here's the rest...

The trade weight looking thing is a mystery. I thought it was a trade weight when I dug it, but with no markings it's obviously not. Any ideas? It's not rusted so it must be an alloy.

Anyway, it was good to get out with good company with the Basstards.

Good sigs and

Its a Sleigh Bell, due to its attachment, not technically a Crotal Bell. I would say late 1800s.

I found a similar silvered bell earlier this year (attached). It was near an old hitching post. Absolutely everything in the vicinity of the post (~30 ft. x ~30ft.) was late 1800s (e.g., Indian Head cents, V nickels, Canadian large cents).

Very informative Cru. I assumed the shank was broken off, but upon closer inspection, it looks like the attachment involved an iron screw that threaded into the bell.

Cheers

Ohhhh, I see. You had to one-up me with that beautiful sunburst design! Lol.

Ha, I just noticed the design on mine! No intentions on one-upping! I didn't realize difference between crotal bells and sleigh bells.

Wow ajaj's bell is waaaaaaaay nice than yours! Great bell ajaj. Glad you posted it.
In all seriousness I don't recall seeing many of these. Something a little different. Hope you still have lots of time to hunt this year buddy

Yes, these were attached directly on leather bands, unlike Crotal Bells that had loops & hung pendant like around the necks of animals.

Nice finds!! I like the sleigh bell, fitting for the upcoming holidays! Congrats and HH

Merry Christmas! ho ho ho

Scrappy---- that one rings my bell----just added to the list of "I wanna's" :icon_thumleft::notworthy::icon_thumright:

Nice bell! Never seen one before. Must be because snow is rare here. It's mud country in winter...
