As you all know I've been working a new costal site. Research has indicated a saxon site to the fore of it and today I've found out that there was once a ferry crossing and public house bang next to this great site came down in or around 1957 plenty of scope for finds.

After digging every signal that wasnt registred as iron 300 lead fishing leads later my detector screamed a unusal high pitch squeal retrieving what i figured a a round copper ring because of the dirt on it. I began to wonder why the detector had made such an unusal noise as I knew the sound of copper it was then after rubbing the ring though my finger a small gleam of gold shone though after cleaning it came up a gleaming yellow no hallmarks or any other identifying marks.

But I would guess it would be quite an age.

When I have finished at this site I will do a complete listing of all the things Ive found and also photos of the area itself.

GREAT job Strike!!!!! :) :)

How does it feel to find a "lost treasure" ????
Total suprise although research and logic dictated there should be decent finds in the location some where.

Then joy after digging all those fishing weights all that effort payed off.

Then finally many questions that probably will never have definate answers like who dropped it how old is it etc etc.

Thanks for the answers to my thread as allways fingers crossed with all that history much more lies to be discovered its quite a rich site probably will spend 3-5 months just clearing the weights.

In between that 1 ring and 25 coins gotta love this hobby.

I will save the prerequisite HH WTG for a few questions
are you able to tell the difference in say lead sinkers to gold ?
the lead bangs off good and loud
the gold ring should be right about the same(depending on size)
depending on the size of the lead at all bangs off loud
try this
take a piece of foil the size of a pull tab
then a piece of alum can the same size
then a pull tab
then a piece of lead that size
hammered flat and trimmed to the pull tab size
this is a test in mass and discrimination
ive found that the more mass an item has
the more it "BANGS" the circuit
now try it with a coin size piece of foil, alum can, lead(coin size flat etc),then the copper coin
after digging 5000 pieces of trash a "good signal" will bang off if you train your brain

by the way YOU SUCK

I hope your joking, although not sure why its funny?

S.I.R,

Nice gold, but have tried your macro function as the pictures are still blurry, if so you are too close to the object.

Great I look forward to the future pictures (sorry for the pressure on the camera, I just like to see the UK stuff in all its glory & it will help IDing)

Good luck & keep clearing the lead. Plenty of ancient various sized objects are made of lead.

No pressure at all Crusader it really is a beautiful piece of craftmanship its rough in places like with a layer of rose gold no hallmarks but what appears to be a very small x on the front of it. Had I a better camera that would perhaps do it justice could be a banner find who knows.

Been thinking of taking it somewhere for testing just not sure where yet.

Best wishes S.I.R
