Skeleton key found on civil war property

Found this key about a foot down on a farm that once had civil war activity and slave houses.
Location: VA

Anybody know what approx year this key is from and what it may have been used for?

I have to say it's a door key... although I have no idea how big it actually is.

Keys like that certainly were more than common during the victorian/CW era. I wish I would dig more than the broken one I have.

At any rate... there are some key collecting folks here and hopefully they know more. Are you out there Gypsyheart?

I used to have a really cool solid brass skel. key that I found at a bottle dig site, I gave it to a girlfriend. Geez, I miss that key.
