Found this old key at a Accadian site where I had found cannonballs and my match safe.

It came out very nice ... I,m impressed !!!!!!!!!

Hope you get it preserved, and find out its history. HH! Reminds me of a key to a jail cell or door, guessing.

Great looking key Aqua, at this point you need to seal it with wax, oil or paint. Then due to it's fragile state I would mount it on a display or picture frame because you don't want people picking it up and handling it too much.
Winter is almost here buddy so it's time to get out there and really hit those sites. Good luck,
ZDD

a month - see if you can find some oxalic acid .....I think you will like the results (citric is ok too...but ....a bit too harsh to heavily corroded things) - you can find it online......

Nice key, but it does look fragile. Is there any possibility of removing the remaining rust? I've heard that this will just "grow" if not removed.

Nice relic. Heat it in a toaster oven, coat with lard (Crisco) heat for half hour, when still hot but able to handle, rub well with cotton rag. remaining rust will wipe off. Finally, immediately coat with spray matte clearcoat (lacquer) You will be pleased with the results.
