Went out Sat evening and Sun afternoon to the high school in my town. I've been wanting to hit the area, but they're adding on to it again, so it's pretty busy during the week. Therefore, I had to wait. :P
I did compare the school as it is today to a picture of it from 1907 (it was built in 1890), and I was happy to see that the expansive front lawn area is pretty much the same. The back and side areas are where the layers of addition have been built. I had high hopes as I parked in the mostly deserted parking area and unpacked my gear.
Lately, my goals have been to find a Merc and a large cent. I figured this would be a great place for Mercs, so off I went.
I set my detector mostly for coin shooting, and was getting plenty of hits. Unfortunately, it was mostly pretty modern stuff. Saturday, as it goes for the Queen of Pennies, I was finding plenty of pennies and a few dimes. One state quarter also popped up. I started thinking that perhaps the place had been hit in the late 80s-early 90s, but not much since then. Still I had a great time, and planned to come back on Sunday, which I did.
Again, on Sunday, lots of hits - mostly pennies and dimes.
Then, I got a strong hit over by the stairs. Started digging, and out pops a beautiful 1907 Barber dime.
I'll post a pic later, just wanted to share. Needless to say, I'll be back at the school this weekend.
Now, I still gotta find that Merc.
