How do you know it's a smelter site? Also do you have any idea who "Benerito" might be?

In 1890 ,My great grandfather witness a group of Spainards with burros at this site. He observed them taking gold bars from this site. We decided one day we would a have a look. we found remains of two hornio sites and large pieces of slag everywhere. What most interesting is the cave where they stored the gold.
