Jesse picked me up at 6 am headed up to some sites in his neck of the woods first few sites didn't pan out and we headed to one last site.ever see radioactive green algae in a pond? maybe theres a cache of coppers submerged in that pond? i left my camera in the jeep cuz my clothes were so wet the camera was getting wet.figures that's where we did the best.i took pics as soon as we got back to jeep at the end of the day.
Jesse got the find of the day. i managed a 1787 New Jersey copper.(my first ever NJ)
a smaller holed copper thats wiped out.
a neat little bell,a flat button with string still in shank.
man did we get soaked but we made the best of a miserable day

Hard to beat a capped bust dime, especially one in as good a shape as Sniffy's. But you did good. That NJ is sweet. Congrats to you.

Re: SOGGY & SOAKED CELLAR HOLES WITH SNIFFY

Well personally I am biased and I like the NJ copper over the bust dime LOL. Sniffy got a great one for sure, anyway, shame the reverse of the NJ is toast. I have the Obverse variety, but there are three reverse varieties to go with it, so it is a Maris 63 obverse. The most common reverse is 63-s , have 7 reported in my survey and it is rated a Rarity 1 (Very Common) a 63-q is possible that is also a Rarity 1, but only one reported in my survey. The final reverse would make the coin a 63-r, Rarity 5 (Rare) of which none have been reported out of 400 coppers in the survey. So odds are it is a s reverse.

I will add yours to the survey as a s for now unless somehow some detail appears to narrow it down. I am assuming you found it same county as Sniffy's other finds he reported, if not drop me a PM. Thanks

Don

well i think it's a tad older than 1950's if the coins that came out were in the upper 1700's to early 1800's

Now that I think about it , the farm house I grew up in was built in the 1840s. There was a lot of stuff around there that my foks said had been there science the farm was built. Your bell could easily date back to the
upper 1700's to early 1800's. Great digs. Thanks for the post.
