With all the snow melt and heavy rain locally, most of my sites are not huntable due to flooding or access to them is not advised right now, so I went this morning to one of my old standby sites for the past 15 years. I believe the last dozen or more hunts have yielded no more colonial coins, but buttons and a few other relics still are to be found.

I was happy enough to get out and at least dig today and getting 4 Tombacs, 1 Pewter, 1 early gilt with no b/m buttons and one big pewter rosette that appears to have been gold plated, and a bonus of a gold plated design piece of brass, well, that is a good enough hunt for me.

The 1817 Large Cent and design piece and button were found my last hunt before the skies opened up late last week

Don

I would be too unhappy if that were my hunt in the UK :D :icon_thumright:

Nice horse boss, only find the plough damaged ones myself, never had one quite as nice :icon_thumright:

Felt good to get out and just dig a few targets :headbang:
Buttons are a thrill for me every time I dig one. The LC is the older sister of my 1819 yesterday ;D

Decent finds, VPR

I wish my old standby sites still produced finds like that after 15 years of hunting.

Very nice buttons.

I'm glad you were able to get out. I may try to swim to a place tomorrow....

Congrats,

Most of my old sites would not proudce anymore like that, but this site is huge and lots of greenbriar, today I was greenbriar hunting, taking advantage of how the snows this winter really flattened out the underbrush in the area, although despite the brush pants I wore, I did take a few hits, but that is where the buttons were to be found........

Good job. It's amazing how just getting your coil into new areas can be so rewarding. It's brutal work sometimes going where others don't dare to go. But it usually pays off. There are some fields around here that have had the edges cut back recently and this has exposed previously unhunted ground resulting in a few relics being exposed.

Good luck with your next hunt.

four tombacs in a day is rare here, even for a new site, and it's especially rare to find them with the cool patterns. looks like a great outing!

Re: Soggy in Jersey but some relics recovered

I am glad to see you posting, Don! I love getting tombacs on sites. They tell us that an early copper is around the metal detecting corner. The snow is finally melted everywhere and the digging ready to commence. It should be a good year for all of us.

Re: Soggy in Jersey but some relics recovered

Hitting the old quality beat sites is a total hit and miss game and I know it very well. I still have a very long list of decent sites that turn up a few targets, but it ain't the same as finding a new place that's loaded. ....And I guess scouting new sites is hit and miss too, it just tends to pay better on the hits.

Nice buttons, relics & LC !!! Everything cleaned up nice, I hope to find a site or two this year that will produce some nice finds like that.
