Carried a small load to the scrap yard her in SE Okla this morning. I had dismantled 2 old self-contained AC/Furnace units that I had to replace on an old house we bought.

1060# Fe @ $0.05 - $53.00
67# Dirty Reefer @ $0.40 - $26.80
7# #2 Cu @ $2.60 - $18.20

Total $98.00

Far from the $5K the new units cost, but better than letting the A/C guys carry it off.

When dealing with old A/C units, be careful there is no residual freon / oils / esthers in the units. Some people (EPA as an example) can get real pissy about it. Granted where one lives plays a big part in the overall attitudes with this stuff but do know they can get stupid on it and make life miserable. and never EVER release freon to the atmosphere if you can help it, especially in front of a witness.
