I did some recon today at a few places that were pretty far down on my list. Two were a bust and the last one only produced two targets.

First target of the day was loud, high, and shallow. I figured it was junk but was still gentle and that’s a good thing. Out pops a massive round golden goodie!

It’s my first pocket watch that’s solid gold and not plated, and it feels heavy! Not sure of the make but it’s a top-winder so it’s probably late 19th century

Next stop was an old faithful spot. It’s a challenge to find a single non-ferrous target, but if you do it’s typically old and something sweet. My only target at the site didn’t disappoint.

It an War of 1812 era officers button with silver gilt. It’s listed as a GI49 in Alberts book and stamped “27”. What a find!!!!!!

Apparently they’re rare to find stamped and are usually found plain (no number stamp) like the photo in Alberts. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1543108216.214921.jpg

I’m ecstatic about this button.

Well, I had a few more keepers including a large cent. I’ll try to post the them later.

Good hunts everyone

Steve

either one is drooling material! The gold pocket watch is high on my bucket list and no hope for the button. Congrats on the super awesome finds

Soldiers returned home to places all over the country. It’s not uncommon for them to be reused and lost far away from battlefields. That was the case for my button since it wasn’t found near any skirmish site

Well I was all in for banner on the solid gold pocket watch alone , but if the button is as good or better - then it's all good !!

I’m a bit partial to early military buttons so I’m easily swayed by a gilt officers button. I never thought in a million years I’d find a solid gold watch....so many frames, pieces, and plating....

Either way, thanks for the banner vote

Awesome stuff! But before I could vote banner I would have to know it is really solid gold. The greater majority of these were rolled gold and definitely look solid. Do us a favor and unscrew that back cover and give us photos of the movement and the marks in the back cover? Super neat either way

Scrappy, 2 Banner Finds in one day. Well Done. I really like both the gold pocket watch and the War of 1812 button. The button is in excellent shape.

Very nice finds bud, I'm partial to gold myself, congrats! Your skill with the detector never ceases to amaze me.

My buddy! Yeah, I don’t dig much gold myself so that watch was a treat.

If I were to open it up it would get destroyed, or best case scenario, never go back together. A few indicators for it being solid is the deep scratch on the case that would have shown the base metal, the solid pin on the fob ring, and the shovel ding on the front bezel that’s all gold. I’m sorry if this doesn’t garner your banner approval, but anyone that’s tried to open a dug pocket watch has likely only tried it once bud. Banners are a great thing but nothing I aim for. Either way, I’m glad you like it

Rolled gold is very thick. The only way you will know is if you open it! If you are cool not knowing that is your prerogative Your find.
Cheers man And a very nice button as well. I do not live in a place where we find those :occasion14:
