After spending hours and days hunting my early French coin spill site in Montreal without more success, decided to revisit one of my old sites where I pulled lots and lots of goodies in the past (militaria, coins etc) Went with my deep 11'' coil on the Deus which is unusual for me but wanted to give it a try and since the grass almost completely died out it became possible.
Well guess what, with great results I should say. In the first 5 min or so a deep clear sound without number readings. Dug a deep hole (one of the deepest ones I can remember digging) and pulled 4 large coppers one after an other. I would have never heard those coins without the 11'' coil which shows that sometimes it's a good strategy to use those big coils even in the woods. A few feet away 2 more large coppers (not deep thou). Well being a good start decided to cover the areas previously covered by the vegetation and by the end of the day pulled 1 more coin and 2 military buttons.
Irish Halfpenny 1760's-1770's
Liverpool Halfpenny 1790's (with writings on the edge)
A beautiful Un Sou - Halfpenny tokens 1837 Banque du Peuple Lower Canada (my best preserved copper from this site so far)
2 Agriculture et Commerce Halfpenny Tokens 1836
2 Impossible to ID coppers
British 71st (Highland) Regiment of foot Pewter Button (1830's)
British 56th (West Essex) Regiment of foot Pewter button (1840-1842)
A really nice little hunt!
