Some Florida beaches in danger

Brevard County Florida officials want to build a seawall ?Artificial Reef? at the outer reefs from Patrick AFB, South to Indian Harbor Beach. This is part of an effort to rebuild and refurbish beaches that have been eroded by hurricanes. Hmmm these are the same folks that damaged our beaches by trucking in tones of ?dirt? from the mainland to renew the beaches following last year?s hurricanes. http://www.floridatoday.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051114/NEWS01/511140343/-1/archives This plan could possibly destroy many shipwreck archaeology sites along this stretch of east central Florida coast, in addition to the adverse environmental impact that it will have on fishing and turtle nesting.

Welcome to the club. If someone has an underwater lease (Fisher et. al.) would that affect their decision? I'm assuming they want to use tetrapods to reduce wave action...just dumping dirt would be futile. Besides, reducing wave action won't replace the sand..that material is building up on the north side of the Canaveral jetty, or being carried out to deep water at the end and lost forever from the system. Your tax dollars at work, overseen by dedicated civil servants.

People will never learn...you can't fool Mother Nature. You've got a beach. You've got an ocean. Put a house right on the beach. Waves wash onto the beach. Hurricanes make bigger waves. Beach washes into the ocean. Houses fall into the ocean. It's not rocket science.

Some people build right on the beach, and understand the risks. Other people are too stupid to realize the risks, and these are the people the politicians are trying to protect. Leave the beaches alone, let these houses and condos fall into the sea, don't underwrite their insurance at taxpayer expense, and, eventually, people will wise up. It'll take awhile, though, because there's a lot of idiots in the gene pool to sort through.

How could these yo-yo's buy a beachfront condo, and now complain because they didn't know there was reef there? What's next, are they going to protest because they didn't know there were sharks in the ocean?

We've got the same problem here in South Carolina. People buy multimillion dollar McMansions oceanfront on beaches that have had erosion problems for more than my 45 years on this earth, and when the water is lapping at their back door, it suddenly becomes everyone elses problem.

I hope you guys in Florida can get it stopped, because it is like cutting off your leg and trying to put a bandaid on it. Anywhere they try to alter flow to save beach, it's just gonna affect someone further up or down the coast.

Let nature take its course....all these rich people who build houses as close to the ocean as possible :P then they try and keep you of their beach....
