A couple of months ago (and on the heels of my earlier silver quarter and dime bonanza) I was fortunate enough to find a smaller hoard of halves and dollars in a local bank. Most were lower-grade, but I felt this 1878-S was collection-worthy.
The icing on the cake, although I haven't had it authenticated, was this 1873-S Trade Dollar. The teller hesitantly offered the coin, saying she couldn't guarantee its authenticity. I told her I'd take a chance for a buck.
The Morgan space in this Capital holder was previously occupied by an 1881 Morgan I'd bought at a coin shop for about $20 in the early 1990s. This 1878 coin is nicer, so the 1881 is now with the silver pile.
