Careful Jack, your warm weather side is showing? New Englanders don't start wearing coats until Thankgiving :D. If you ever make it back to the area drop us a line. Hope you had fun. Welcome to New England.

I was just going to ask the same question!! By the way, the day may not have been cold enough for a local to really wear a coat, but those pictures almost look like early November shots, not early October - I got a shiver just imagining how cold that water is. :)

So - as Mat asked - any gold??

You guys . . .

If I found gold, you think I would not have mentioned it? Not much black sand and no gold, I tried digging down behind a small bolder after this was shot (hence removing the jacket) but did no better. The sand grains were even still large, almost like small bird shot. I did have to stop digging every few minutes to warm up my hands.

I had looked up a brook and got the coordinates, another rumored to have gold. When I saw it on the satellite view, I mistook it for the river running alongside the highway, which is the Westfield river. The actual brook I was looking for was a feeder. So, I was only in the vicinity of where I wanted to be.
