Some water hunt firsts.... Not for the squeamish!

Went to a local swimming area on a very windy day. Couldn't hunt very deep as the waves were cresting over my hip waders. Found my first silver coin, a 1958 D Rosie!! Also my first "E-cig" (kinda gross), large Jubitz brass token (rang up 98-99). AND last but surely not least......(drum roll) My very first case of swimmers itch aka duck mites!!!!!! Listen, if you want to know what it feels like to be a "tweaker" without the meth, go gather yourself some swimmers itch. Man, not fun. Went to the doctors last night and got it all figured out. A little cream, some allergy medicine. Only on my arms since that was all that was exposed. Yes, wetsuit is coming! Take care and happy (((scratch, scratch, scratch))) hunting!!

When I was young I was at my camp for a week. I ended up getting these terrible sores all through my mouth. Imagine have 40 terribly painful sores in your mouth. I literally just couldn't take it and was going crazy. I couldn't eat, talk, or sleep. It was caused my something in duck feces. Yes gross I know.
Great finds but you paid the price lol

LOL! No actually it is a larvae from the duck mite that apparently migrates from a snail that ingests duck poop. When wind churns up the lake bottom, these little suns-a-guns zip up to the surface of the water and lay in wait for the next duck (or in my case, metal detectorist) to cruise by. The larvae jams itself into the skin of the human and immediately dies causing the reaction you see. If it gets into a duck, it travels thru its blood stream into the bowels and thus completes the cycle.

you don't need a wetsuit, just coat all exposed areas with a nice coating of axle grease

Congrads on the silver, and I would go drysuit, it will extent your season beyond a wetsuit and if I can remember correct wetsuits are still not 100%... Be Safe!! And Good Luck!!

Yeah I have spent a lot of time in the water as well, just never when it was 50 degrees and 40 mph sustained winds LOL.
