My wife and I were detecting the beach a few months ago. A young boy ran up and grabbed the detector right out of her hand and tried to run off with it!

He was just a young kid and didn't get far as my wife had a leash on it using the headphone cord!

The kids mom ran over and said, "that's not polite, you cant take that!" The kid response was, I want a metal detector!

LOL, Just another reason to use headphones!

some peoples kids I tell you! If I would have tried that as a child, my mom would have beat me senseless. These kids nowadays....but don't discipline the children....no that could have adverse effects on them as they grow....like being responsible adults that don't expect handouts or steal to get the things they desire. Good thing the little brat didn't get too far :laughing7:

I know a person who was detecting on his own on a local welsh beach
who a few years ago was approached by a teenager and threatened with
a knife and was made to hand over his cash and detector the youngster then ran off and
the police were alerted and the scallywag was apprehended on a train by Police after a tip
off by another passenger on the train who heard him bragging about the robbery.
It turned out he was a well known thief and shoplifter and lived in the next town
The detectorist eventually got his machine back and the thief ended up in a young offenders
institution for multiple theft offences...Makes you think about lone detecting away from
the reach of other people...!!

If We tried that as youngsters we'd get the belt with the Hooks on it in the wood shad. Many parents don't believe in smacking the kids bottom. My favorite was having to go cut your own switch and if it wasn't big enough for ma, she'd haul out the hickory stick with the blood on it. She told us it was blood anyway...........

My wife was a bit shocked at first but we both laughed and thought it was funny.
True, he should have known better but the boy was probably only 4 or 5.

"not polite?" Heck that's more like criminal.

I know my sons would not even imagine doing something like that even at 4 or 5 years old. Pretty sad.

Geez, I'm only 30, and growing up with immigrant parents, I remember getting in trouble and having my mom tell me to pick out a belt from my dads closet so he can use when he gets back from work. I picked out a belt, and 5 mins before my dad got home, I would stuff my pants with books or a small pillow. When he found out I was "stuffed", I got it twice as hard on the naked a@*!

Glad they did that now, seeing how the youngsters these days act with no fear of discipline.

Glad everything ended up okay.

Kids Mom should have disciplined that boy. Nows the time to learn right from wrong. I knew better at five, my parents made sure of it. :o

My mother prefered a Lilac switch. If it wasn't the right size, she would escort us out to the Lilac bush and pick one out for us to cut. She prefered one that would raise nice red welts rather than break any bones. We were deathly afraid to hear the the Mill whistle at the end of day. That was when dad would be home with the leather belt....

I would have explained to the mother how she was about to have to pay for a $1000 detector if her little brat she had no control over broke it or dropped it in the water. Some people should not be allowed to reproduce.

I work with kids every day.....

......as a Math teacher to the hormonally challenged! I teach at our Middle School...... 7th and 8th graders! And, I see the full spectrum of behaviors. However, on the whole..... the entire spectrum has shifted. It's not like it used to be when we were all kids in school.

Not only do I carry the sand scoop but also firearm when I hunt.
I hope I never need to use it in defense of my life but ...
I would rather be judged by 12 ... than carried by 6!

I would slip one comic book in my pants to cover the rear end and scream really loud when getting hit (mostly with a spatula) this would help take the sting and hide any unusual noise. Oh ya my parents were tennis players and mom had a wicked forehand swing! :laughing9:
