Had a very nice week end hunt. Hit a few fields with some good results managing to not only break my 18 months Spanish silver drought but find one of my bucket lister coppers. George the first was on the list for a while and I almost gave up on finding one as my areas for some reason never produce coppers from that period (or they are too beat to ID) Got an invitation from a friend of mine on a new permission and within an hour had the coin in the finds pouch. On top of it, its condition isn't bad at all for a 300 years old copper.

George I Halfpenny 1723

Also found a few other nice coppers.

George II Halfpenny 1749

Spread Eagle Halfpenny 1815

And Sir Isaac Brock Halfpenny 1816

After getting back to my permissions decided to hit a field that had,in my view, some great potential but only previously produced the coins and relics form Victorian era (mid to late 1800's). Finally manged to find a spot on a huge field where an older house was located. After removing some Victorian junk started finding coins and relics fro Georgian era. Pretty soon, got a strong silver signal on my Deus and pulled a bit worn 1 Real coin.

And my first Victoria Penny 1884

Found a few good relics as well.

Revolutionary War 67th and 60th Regiment of foot buttons.

And what looks like a lead seal.

A busy but productive week end, just the way I like them.

Aha! I like that... a post with more depth than it seems! I've said this before about the CT coppers: It's interesting that they had just fought the revolution and the best design they came up with was a George profile and a Britania copy reverse! Makes you wonder if maybe the guys making the coins were loyalists with a grudge. The history of the CT coppers is pretty extensive and interesting!

Yes,pretty ironic that they did that. But at the same time I can't blame them for wanting to copy the design of a much better known copper coin. Some numismatic sites site the design of CT coppers as ''man facing right/left with seated liberty holding an olive branch'' which I believe twists the reality as it's obviously a British penny knock-off.

And the season just started.
Can’t wait to see what else ends up in your finds pouch.

I might still get 2-3 weeks this season. Hopefully there will be more good finds.:icon_thumright:

I have to say that I'm NEVER disappointed with any of your post and this one is no exception!!! CONGRATZ on your bucket lister and your drought buster..

Thanks fishstick. I was starting to wonder when was the drought going to end. Haven't found a single Spanish in over a year.

Wow, grway items. Congratulations. I guess I have to get out into more fields. I have some lined up in areas originally dyked by the Acadians

Thanks Doug from NS. Unfortunately I have very little French relics where I'm hunting. Would be a dream to find a settlement that early.

It looks like you have a good spot, it is nice to find so many nice coins and relics on a virgin site. I am working on a site that had a small community that had over 500 people now all gone. Good luck on your future finds.

Wow! Those coppers are in great shape. I found a Vicky in an old site last year. Can’t imagine that it would circulate as currency. Same time period as IHP’s in the US. Congrats on a great haul and of course the Reales!

Thanks pa-dirt_nc-sand. I wouldn't be surprised your Vicky was used in monetary exchanges even that recently.

Man that is a weekend of awesome finds! Congrats! :icon_thumleft: The soil was very kind to those coins! The copper coins around here come out very crusty. I'll be very lucky if I ever find a 1700's coin here!

Thanks Whyme. It all depends on the soil. Some of my sites produce crusties while others are great. Sometimes its a question of a mile a part
