Today was a good day to play with the boys 11 and 26 the youngest just wanted to play with the animals and that left my middle boy and me digging for the past history in those two old fields that dates back to 1820/1850s I think my boy found a wax seal stamp and I might have found a knife or sword butt cap some small buckles and a mystery loop strap brass piece and one Indian head cleaning up for now will try and get a pic and date later cleaned up Indian head 1879 and one of my best harmonica reeds yet almost complete some mystery hammered flat lead and a oval shaped brass piece with a wreath design around the edge also found two pocket watch covers and part of a otex cap gun found an eagle button that just fell apart in my hands so sad and this mystery metal copper piece but most of all having fun with my boys and would love to take them on a large group hunt sometime

Looks like a successful day of digging an spending time with your boys. I like the decorative brass piece. If it didn't have the extended part with the hole in it I'd say it looked like a pistol but cap. You are probably right that it is a guard or part off a knife or sword.
