Need help dating this spoon. It appears older than i originally thought, being the "egg bowl shape" was coming in in the 1700s i believe (correct me if wrong). Is this older than the rat tail spoons? It has the puritan style square stem but I can't find anything that looks similar to the adjoining back area. Looking for the spoon info expert lol. Thank You all for your time!

Can you post photos from other angles? I’d like to see the opposite side. Maybe include something to help designate its size too.

That poor thing had been around quite awhile and taken a beating.
Have you tested it with a magnet?
Just wondering about the composition.

I can’t tell if the handle was applied to the bowl originally or if it was repaired at one time. I can see a possibility of it being from mid to late 1600s. It resembles some Dutch made spoons that date to that period. Many of those were either pewter or silver. I don’t want to mislead you. This is strictly guesswork on my part.🍀

In photo #4 the spoon looks like it is made from copper.
The crack from straightening it out the spot I'm referring to.(If enlarged on the original photo it will show the bright copper colour at the crack.

I believe copper as well. Could be a fiddle style with a broke handle but I don't see much tapering and the adjoining part has me confused. Maybe repaired as Blackfoot mentioned.

I am leaning towards a copper alloy rather than pewter (tin based alloy). Nick it with a file. If it is orangy it is copper.
Jeff, I'm almost positive the basemetal is copper, as someone said, u can see where I straightened it a little and the crease shows copper. More curious of the type of spoon, style and time period

SIP, that spoon could have some age to it. The late 19th-20th century plated copper spoons are usually really thin. Yours is pretty beefy indicating it could be earlier.
Jeff I agree, between bottle digging and detecting I've dug a bunch, but have never seen one like this. I'm about to post a new thread of this sweet 1849 Chris Christofle serving fork I found recently.
