My detector is a spoon magnet.

3 spoons today to add to the 50+ this year at old farms. All have been silver plated. They typically have enough silver when pulling out of the dirt for that "is it finally a sterling spoon" rush moment, but all until today's lunch hunt were dashed In the field when brass would be quickly apparent.

Today's handful including a shiny intact ornate spoon. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1507832173.744876.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1507832235.042699.jpg Fancy monogramming. 1847, awesome. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1507832340.269489.jpg But "NS Triple"??? No, not again, triple plated brass. How cruel. Still searching for the first sterling spoon.

Dog tag from 1918 made up for it I guess. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1507832478.279727.jpg

Good luck out there!

I hear ya on spoon magnet. I dug so many old plated spoons. I was lucky to dig a complete 18th century sterling spoon and a modern broken spoon sterling bowl. Thats only 1.5 silver out of 150+ spoons! [emoji30]

I have ONE genuine silver spoon in NINE years hunting. It's an old twisted mangled find from a corn field. Still being from the 1840's and actually "intact" it's my best spoon to date. Also being inscribed and traced to a local family makes it even cooler. Silver spoon should be on everyone's bucket list as they are a very difficult item to score. Your OLD dog tag made up for it BIG TIME!:headbang:

Love the dog tag. I have also had zero luck with finding a silver spoon. All plated or crusty so far.

Now I know why someone decided to make "Spoon Rings".

They were just digging all the handles .

I feel your pain ! While I have dug one silver spoon ( sterling , circa 1920's /30's) I still have yet to dig a single Indian Head - you guys and gals in PA. dig Indian Heads every day ! I have been detecting for at least 11 years , I get a silver spoon which is a tougher find for most - there's no explaining some things .

That spoon looks good to me, I can hardly believe it's not real. Dang man.

I really like the dog tag though, and it sort of makes up for the spoon.

GL!
