Hi all. I finally got a chance to do some honest to god relic hunting (as opposed to clad hunting in the parks) recently while on a motor home trip through Utah. Found an old silver mining ghost town from the 1870's thru early 1900 . Here are my finds.
Maybe you may help me identify a couple of items. The U shaped thing is iron and quite heavy. I seem to think I remember an item like this posted here before but cant't remember what it is. Also the large copper disc thing is a mystery as well. There were quite a few of these things scattered around the area. Maybe crushed lantern tops? The area I hunted was very trash strewn with broken bottles and porcelain strewn everywhere. As well as crushed cans with every sweep of the detector. Square nails were literally everywhere! Just picking them off the surface.
The most interesting find to me is the shotgun shell with the nail stuck through the primer. Looks like someone tried to reload it and got the nail stuck in it trying to de-primer it and tossed it.
Any info on these finds are appreciated. 20160626_150557.jpg 20160626_163510.jpg 20160626_162049.jpg

20160626_162049.jpg Ok lets try a different resolution. Looks better. This is the large disc thing I mentioned. It is about 12" in diameter and smashed flat. The center has a edge like the edge of a coin, kind of knob that has been smashed flat. As I mentioned earlier, it appears to made of copper as it has a green patina and there were several of these things laying about the area.

20160626_163546.jpg 20160626_163510.jpg Ok Think I finally got it. Thanks for putting up with me. It's been a while since I posted pics. on here. Anyway I had a great time on this hunt. Also found a harmonica reed and another old spoon but gave it to the campground host where I stayed.
