Here’s my short story. I found a 14k gold earring last weekend, with a solid blue turquoise stone setting. I lost it, the first gold find that I have ever lost.
Anyway, here’s the skinny on how I got the coin purse, if it was a coin purse. I was hunting a lot that has been hunted by many. I found three wheats (the old one being 1924) and then I came upon a good zinc penny reading, but just a little different, and it was down deep. It was so deep that I almost stop hacking/digging into the concrete like soil.
When I got down to about 10” to 12”, I said to myself, “Forget it”. But instead I decided to go for the gusto. And when I did, I hacked the heck out of it. When it came out of the ground I thought it was the rim from an old aluminum can. I tossed it into my treasure apron.
I didn’t realize that it was something until the next day, which was when I decided to empty my treasure apron. From the start I thought it was silver, but it was so black that I couldn’t really tell.
First soaked it in ammonia and rinsed it. Then I dunked it halfway into tarnix/acid, I did that so that the original oxidization could be seen. After a few minutes I took it out and immediately saw the Sterling mark.
I’ll straighten it out, and see if I see that it’s worthy of another photo I’ll put one up. I guess I’ll start using my DX1 probe.
PS
I think I left a signal in the hole that may hold a coin or two. I won’t be able to get back to it until this coming weekend. Thanks for looking.
