Hey gang! I may not have been posting as much as I used to but I am still lurking around! I'm still doing boxes and once I finish this batch of 24 I'll be happy to post my results! I read a couple of posts with people asking about a key date coin thread. So, I decided what the hell, I got into this because I collect coins, why not share a little knowledge! I'm also procrastinating doing my HS AP work!
Now for those of you who don't know, a "key" date coin is : A key date basically the hardest coin in the series. Coins of this nature are usually very, very expensive, even in their lowest grades. This usually happens because very few of them were minted. I'll show you all of the key dates, and their mintage's!
Take Note: Guys, I'm not gonna go through every coin series! Only the ones you'll be likely to find at a bank! Example, I'm not going to tell you Capped Bust Halves, because all of them are very valuable!
Let's start off with the cents!
Indian Heads
1877 --- Mintage: 852,500
1909S --- Mintage: 309,000
Semi Key: 1908S --- Mintage: 1,115,000
NOTE: The better date coins were minted from 1866 to 1879, so any of those are worth a PRETTY penny! (Pun intended!)
Wheat Pennies
1909 V.D.B S --- Mintage: 484,000
1922 No D --- Mintage: Can't find a record.
1955 Double Die Error: Mintage Unknown.
Semi Keys: 1914 D --- Mintage: 1,193,000
1931 S --- Mintage: 866,000
NOTE: There's tons of error coins that are worth something too, but there's books written on that stuff, I can't go through ALL of it!
Liberty (Commonly known as "V") Nickels
1885 --- Mintage: 1,476,490
1886 --- Mintage: 3,330,290
1912 S --- Mintage: 238,000
1913 --- Mintage: 6 Known
Don't think you're ever gonna find a 1913 guys!
Buffalo Nickels In this series there's tons of over dates and over mint marks, and I'm not going to do them either... Sorry!
1913 D --- Mintage: 4,156,000
1913 S --- Mintage: 1,209,000
1913 S Type 1 --- Mintage: 2,105,000
1921 S --- Mintage: 1,557,000
1926 S --- Mintage: 970,000
NOTE: Just because a coin is a key date doesn't mean its worth hundreds, or thousands of dollars. In their lowest grade, most of THESE coins are pretty affordable.
Jefferson Nickels
None. If you thought there'd be any key dates here, you're funny!
Barber Dimes
1892 S --- Mintage: 990,710
1893/2 --- Mintage: 3,340,792
1894 O --- Mintage: 720,000
1895 --- Mintage: 690,880
1895 O --- Mintage: 440,000
1896 O --- Mintage: 610,000
1896 S --- Mintage: 575,056
1897 O --- Mintage: 666,000
1901 S --- Mintage: 593,022
1903 S --- Mintage: 613,300
1904 S --- Mintage: 800,00
1909 D --- Mintage: 954,000
1913 S --- Mintage: 510,000
1915 S --- Mintage: 960,000
Once again guys, not all of these are expensive, in fact quite a few are very affordable and make great investments, because when an interest sparks in the Barber series, and the demand goes up, you'll make some money!
Mercury Dimes
The King! 1916 D --- Mintage: 264,000
Semi Keys: 1921 --- Mintage: 1,230,000
1921 D --- Mintage: 1,080,000
Roosevelt Dimes
Haha! Once again, NONE! Gotcha!
Guys, I gotta go work on my AP stuff! I'll do quarters, halves and dollars later! C ya!
