Found this stone today sticking out of a creek bank. The bank is within a couple of hundred feet of where I found a huge midden pile and two stone points. The stone is 4 1/2" x 1 5/8" Could it be an adze or some other type of tool?

Looks like a nice axe head to me .... You can tell by the groove in the middle most have a deeper groove but still a really great find.

Very nice Grooved Adz. That one is a beauty. I believe that type is called a Half Grooved Adz. Classic northeastern example of the type. Awesome find man!!!

Yep, that's a nice grooved adze. When present, the groove usually is only on the back side. More attractive then the more common humpback adze. A great find, not easy finding hardstone tools.
