Strange State Quarter

I'm not really into coins but I was about to put this quarter into the pop machine when I noticed that it didn't look right. Not knowing much about coins and all - is this a result of an error during minting or something like acid?

Acid or heat would be the culprit, here. If it were missing a clad layer the entire side of the coin would all be a coppery color, it would be thinner than usual, and the strike would possibly be quite weak and mushy.

The coin was a error form the mint. The the sheet where put together the nickel clad was thin in that area. I have a couple of coins like this one and proof one to. The coin is worth about 25.00 or more if you would like to sell it put it on ebay. nice coin
