first off I want to say hi everyone this is my first post I've been metal detecting for a few years now and just joined treasurenet the other day.. anyway I was in a local marsh with my excal ii at low tide and got a screaming solid hit..10 hard mud digging minutes at a foot deep I pulled out a titanium hip replacement...I stood there thinking of all the scenarios of how it got there....anyway I brought it down to the local pd and they were able to trace its serial numbers and track down the family..turns out their mother had died and was creamated and they threw the hip replacement off the bridge into the marsh where she loved to spend her time....so the family told pd to throw it back in there....sorry for the long post just wanted to share thanks.....hh....

How in the world, did you Know what it Was ?

if I had found it,
it would have ended up either in what is It here.
or in my collection as something to marvel over :tongue3:

Kind of hard to "buck" the FAMILY explanation... if it was a total family explanation. But throwing mom's hip replacement into a marsh... Guess I'd have to see what this marsh's environment looks like. It just "sounds weird"....????

Well, it sure ain't a ball joint for a car or truck!

Throwing it into a marsh is a weird option and probably better than taking it to a Recycler which would be downright sick but not beyond some folks nowadays!

Interesting and a good lesson...........with increasing cremation, people throw ashes, including whatever hardware the person had, into places the now deceased liked. My guess is when finding an obvious implant, to put it back as was done..................
Good story......

Interesting thread. I was just talking today at the office about weird stuff people have found while out hunting artifacts. I guess I will have a good update to tell Monday. -> Your weird find now tops my list.
