I'm sure the best has yet to be found. I think the shield insignia is some type of corps badge, but I'm not 100% sure. The half button, is a NY state button... 20200108_205155.jpg

Agreed, its a leather mount for a horse harness or saddle.

Yes, it does not resemble any corps badges I have seen. You can google them actually. I also think it's from horse leather. Now go back and hammer the place!
