I think he figured this out on another thread.. For some reason I remember seeing pieces laid out on a paper towel... Maybe I'm wrong.
I found a heck of a piece of metal today.. I wasn't expecting to find an axe head..looks...oooold too

Will do we sure could use some better detecting conditions for coins and things but when times are bad I start hunting in a different way for different things that's what led to the axe head.

Its bad here too. Sand starts to drop then fills back in. We should be getting into the beach cutting season soon. I hope. Still go nust too see if theres anything. Got dome heavy iron a silver dime and a wheat. Been bustin my ass. Its all good.

Hope the wife wasn't mad about the central heat being broke last week. It was cold here.

He posted in another thread the numerous pieces of whatever iron object it was.
I seem to remember him saying something about metal like mashed potatoes.

Looks good, to me it looks like a utility axe it's a little small for a battle axe. Can you date it?

The style of pole axe gives some idea of a date maximum.. the area itself has had occupation for thousands of years including Spanish and then British after contact...so its tuff to be sure without any maker mark.
By the size of it I think it could fall under utility or trade axe.

Looks similar to a throwing hawk I have, once bought from Crazy Crow Trading Post, a Native American owned company.

Didn't take any photos of it yet, but here are links to their throwing hawk and the trapper's axe. Yours has a straight top edge as the first link, looks to me like a throwing hawk the trappers traded with the Native Americans.
