I used my Whites Surfmaster II for the first time today at the beach. Worked fine in the dry sand but when it came to the wet sand and water, I had a very hard time using it. I looked at my user manual for any tips. Anyone have any tips for getting this machine to work well ?

Thanks

As Casper says not good for wet salt areas. Its just a Whites Classic in a waterproof box. Doesn't mean its not a good detector but it was intended for freshwater beaches/rivers etc.

Surfmaster II is a VLF with one freq like the AT Pro.

Ok. Thank you for the input. Don't know why the hell they named it "Surfmaster" if it's not a salt water machine! Guess I should have done some research before buying it

Ummmmm, YEAH! That always helps. The SM is great for freshwater beaches, but not at it's best in the ocean. It can be used if you turn the sensitivity way down, but you won't have more than an inch or two of depth. Surfmaster PI is great for the beach if you don't have a lot of iron trash, otherwise you need a multi-freq like the Excal or the CZ-21
