First, hello everyone! This is my first finds post on this site. I've been detecting since last July and since then have made some great finds. It all started in my back yard with my first silver that happens to be a beautiful 1858 seated dime. Since that find, I've made several attempts in the woods behind my house to make another find of note...Today was the day! Please excuse the poor quality of the photos as I'm stuck using my cell phone for now but anyways to my complete surprise I managed to pull my fourth(in 16 days!)Spanish silver!!! It's a 1792 1 Reale.

Oh sorry, let me clarify, lol. This is my fourth Reale in 16 days. I hit a virgin site- 35 acre farmhouse in MA since the 1st of this month a few times that has produced over 40 buttons,1 1853 trime,1 1865 2 center, 3 reales (1 one and 2 half) and 5 coppers (4DB and 1 MH),bag seals, musket balls, etc. Unfortunately many finds are in rough shape due to soil conditions (wet and fertilizer treated for many decades) but I've learned quite quickly that getting permission to detect old farm fields can be VERY fruitful and is your best bet for virgin territory!

With less than a year under your belt you are doing quite well!

Four Spanish silvers in one year is a good year around here!

Not to brag but I pulled a sweet 1835 capped bust half dime last month and I'm up to 11 coppers (two 17th century) on the season. Frankly, I'm very lucky that many people (including on this site) have no problem sharing tips and techniques that have undoubtedly helped with my "beginner's luck". Also, living in a state with so much history is definitely a plus for early American and colonial finds. Thanks everyone and best of luck out there!

Super cool. My very first coin was an 1840 half-dime, still one of my best coins. Haven't found any spanish silver yet tho'.
