If simply an upside down T ...

It may mean the same as a capitol L 90 degrees with the foot as a directional

90 degrees with the longest foot as a directional

Best I can give with no picture.

A capitol 'T' as a Spanish sign usually only means "tesoro"
If a pirate mark it can mean "Tao" or "truth"

There is also a school of thought that says it has a biblical meaning
and that it represents Thomas, one of the 12 Apostles "the doubting one"

If the cross of the T is slanted, the up side indicates the direction to go.
If one side is longer, the long side is the directional.

Not too much more on the "T"

Hey Tapout, if you are on the east coast, check out witness trees also. They were used as boundary markers on surveys.
