And I leave the sensitivity at 7 but I'm not sure if that's a good idea or not

I am the 13 year old kid that has been metal detecting at my grandparents house in Nashville for civil war relics. I have recently found my first civil war bullet! I was wondering how to set up my technetics delta 4000 metal detector for optimum power. thank you!

Check out YouTube for some videos on your machine. You are bound to learn a few good pointers there. :headbang:

I started with the Delta and had a lot of luck. I ran mine in all metal mode with the sensitivity as high as I could run it and the machine stay stable. I didn't pay much attention to the vdi and you should dig every consistent signal.
It's like most machine in that you need to learn the language. The more you hunt the more you will learn what too listen for.
As far as the vdi is concerned, I learned that the consistency of the number is much more important than the value.

My guiding principles on any machine is to run the Ses as high as the ground allows & the Disc as low as you can. 0 if possible, then learn all the sounds & dig as much as you can, as quickly as you can. Whilst covering the ground in a grid pattern, missing nothing.

i use a delta 4000 my self --- the custom mode is sweet (the notch n /out ability) --its 0 to 99 number spread is great for helping to separate items .... i'm sure you have noted that older copper cents and clad dimes ring up similar --(82) due tp the copper core of a clad dime being very similar to a copper cent (1982 and earlier) be for the zinc cents came into being....typically they run a 77/78 value....note if you notch out "modern zinc" cent you might miss out on civil war era indian cents --their metal make up is different that the copper cents
