Being from the IN/MI area, I'm familiar with Great Lakes agate. I've lived in TN for many years now and have come across two large ones this year. I found this one two days ago while artifact hunting in a creek. I'm in north Middle TN right on the KY line. Is there a specific name for this type of agate? I believe the core ( or most of it) will be crystals. If this is not an agate, please correct me. I plan to cut it later this year when I take a lapidary class.

Nice find!...That is a dandy. Most people don't understand that true agates have banding. That will polish up nice.

I have heard TN agate called paint rock for its brilliant colors. Have always wanted to find some. That looks like a very nice piece.
