New member here. I have been lurking for a while. On Saturday I dug up this coin/token at a North Carolina homestead. As you can see, it is terrible, pitted condition! What I think (or hope!!) it to be is a liberty cap 1/2 cent from the 1790's. Diameter is 28.35 mm. Thickness is 1.95 mm. Can anyone confirm or deny this identity? To me, condition and value are secondary to identity. Finding and confirming a 212 + year coin would be awesome in it's own right. Thanks for any help.

It appears to be a Draped Bust Large Cent, not a Liberty Cap Half or Large Cent. The leaves on the reverse look like the reverse type used from 1796 to 1807.

The diameter matches the Large Cent, not Half Cent, and the thickness matches Draped Bust Large Cents but the leaves on the reverse determined to me that it has to be a Draped Bust.

Many thanks for the replies. I agree with the dimensions. I'll weigh it tomorrow (should be closer to 10 grams?) Not disappointed though, it's still the oldest find for me.
