That's Life

Had these finds off a field where copper/bronze always comes up in good condition. Got the two copper coins fairly quickly. Although there not classed as rare finds for England I was pleased with the their condition. Heading towards my bag for a drink I found the octagonal 17th traders century token, these are very rare and much sort after. Unfortunately as you can see there's practically no detail left on it at all. Still that's life.

Do you have a flash on your camera, they are very dark pictures. I bet they are better than pictured.

Never had an octagonal 17th century token. As you state they are one of the most sort after type. Even with a couple of letters you should be able to ID. Can you see any?

wow some great finds.

Would love to see a better pic. Do you have a Macro button on your camera you could use? Also if you use a white background it may help with the lighting. I always put my items on a white sheet of paper to be shot.

Congrats on your token

Re: That's Life

Yes got flash and macro, if I take pictures in good natural light they turn out. These pictures were taken about 6pm which means in England that's it's dark so house lights are on. I find that if I use the flash on finds that it just flashes back no matter what the background is.

Re: That's Life

Just a thought that might help with the flash trouble you described:
I put a piece of regular paper over the flash of my camera when taking indoor macro shots of coins. This lets the flash illuminate the objects, but doesn't wash them or flash back. Works good for me.

I took the photos into Photoshop and was able to get some detail on the two coppers, albeit with a color shift but cool looking coppers you got there!

Congrats on the great find

Re: That's Life

Had the coins soaking in baby oil for a couple of days, got them out this morning and took some more pictures. They are both farthings Charles 11 -1675 and George 11 - 1739. Going out detecting this afternoon.

Good Hunting

As I said above, good 1675, about as good as you could hope for.

I going to see a display of local Archie finds this morning. I helped detect the dig.

Then have lunch & back to the sheep field for a better day I hope. Good luck this afternoon.
