The 1836 spot was unproductive

Hi again,

This is the spot I hunted today...the scenic picture shows a 3 sided basement wall. I checked the foundation and all around the woods; only found junk. Lots of old style pull rings and rusted beer cans. Lots of other metal items and foil. Dug nearly everything if I had a clear signal of anything. Was hoping to find a cache so in my mind there might have been a metal box buried somewhere. The second picture is of two pieces of junk...I have no idea what the first one is, but the second piece appears to be a lid to a small box. I got excited when I found that and dug everything that even remotely sounded like it could be anything in that area. Never found the rest of the box! Someday when I can't figure out anyplace to hunt I'll go back and look again. Very disappointed!

I have a spot I go to that I was frustrated with just like you. I went there with high hopes since it was from 1850. Well, I found nothing, and caught poison ivy in the process. Well, I went back several more times until I cleared out alot of trash and then stuff started popping up. Don't give up on it. I'm sure you will find things there eventually - maybe wait until a heavy rain. By the way, are you from Michigan? Good Luck,

The small box to the right appears to be a "union box".It was used to keep photographs in.Very popular form the 1850-1870s. I found one a couple weeks ago.The picture had long since disengrated ;but it was still a neat find. Congrats on your finds.

That might be true, but the detectors in the 70's and 80's didn't have the better electronics( Target ID or depth readings, or better discrimination) the newer units have and those past detectorists just might have missed those deeper coins.

Keep on searching the area,it might suprise you with some good items.

Hey just like the other guys have said, don't give up.

For several years I hunted a site that only produced a 1910 Canadian dime, then last year up comes silver all over the place, heck I even found a gold ring at this site. You just never know.
