Fantastic music.

The first time I heard this piece was at the end of one of those Civil War movies - as Lee surrendered and the war was lost.

Great song; here's its (surprising to me) history:

Thanks Don! I had no idea of the song's origin. And now I know where I'd remembered it from = "The Civil War"

That 'lament' reminds me of John Hartford's "Lorena";supposedly a song so sad that southern soldiers deserted just to get back to their sweethearts.

Don, I owe you another thanks! I remember "Lorena" and the legend of it. But that was long forgotten.
