some of those fields can be hard hunting, the farmers up here leave too much stubble, we tried an onoin field, it seemed like walking on 4 inches of dried stcks, stawks, twigs,...we did find some iron for the scrap yard tho. maybe better luck after its plowed.

great finds Merf

Merf, those are beautiful finds and beautiful photos! The state seal button is a great find too--even if it is damaged by the plow. It could be CW era.

The weird pewter "spartan head" is an item that one of my buddies has found before:

Congratulations, My Friend. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Buckles ----The info on the state seal button and the spartan head are greatly appreciated. Best luck my friend

I just looked at it again, and it appears to be a NY militia Staff Officer button with the word "excelsior" broken off by the plow. (Alberts NY30) They are very common buttons, but they date all the way back to the 1850s.

Best Wishes,

Buckles

I think it may have been a store, tavern, or post office as it is producing lots more than the average farm site.

I think so too, Merf. You've been doing awesome out there.

That's such a large area to detect. I bet there's a lot of dead zones, and then hot zones!

Congrats, again! Good luck on your return!

The crotal bell is broken---Once in a while I find a whole one that dodged the plow.
