I’ll beep for a few hours every other weekend, not really pounding dirt the way I used to, but that’s ok, life is good.
But on my way home from work, I spied a sidewalk tear out, only 50 feet or so, but it’s an old street..... I started to drool.
15 cents in clad, roadside trash and scraps..... bummer.
But then.....this pops out.

A little copper box, ornate all around, and with 99% intact majolica glass on the top.
A pill box? Art Deco?..... super old, and super sweet....gotta be the coolest thing I’ve found all year.

Also, it’s heavy. It’s sealed shut, and I’m kinda scared to pry it open without F’ing it up.
But the curiosity is killing me.....are there Barbers in there?....or just dirt.
Stay tuned.

Thanks for looking!:hello:

I have not done metal detecting since 1995 but at that time I had a Fisher underwater metal detector.

The material is smalti glass tile, is what they use for mosaics.

Cool find. I’ve mangled my share of old rouge tins hoping a coin was inside. Your box is a treasure in itself. I would proceed carefully on this one. Maybe even carefully drill a hole in the bottom to inspect what’s inside. Then insert a brass plug (Home Depot specialty hardware section) in the hole. You’ll know what’s inside and still have a perfect box vs potentially crushing a side or dislodging the mosaic. Sometimes old thin brass looks solid, but it is actually very brittle. Good luck!

I would not take the chance of ruining that beautiful box, but my guess is that you will and when you do, you better show us what’s inside

Now I know why I didn’t hear anything shaking around inside.:BangHead::BangHead::BangHead:

Completely dry and clean inside, better than dirt or dried out liver pills.:dontknow:

Thanks everyone for your pats on the back, and interest in this relic.....
Thanks for the links, I’ve learned a lot from them.:icon_thumright:

And the cymbal splash....you had to find out.

I have some pics of an item similar that had two barber dimes inside. I should post even though my pics suck.
