In 1862 10 bandits jumped a stage containing the gold coins between Fairplay and Ute Pass. It happened in the Como area. The driver made it to the next town and a posse was quickly formed. The chase came to an end near the town of Clifford. one of the bandits buried the loot while the others kept the posse busy. He came back to help his friends but was to late, all the bandits were killed. The posse could not locate the loot.
If the location of the Clifford Colorado still exists or it's location is known, this possibilities. Look for an old trail from Clifford to the Como area. Work this trail out from Clifford. There should be a lot of shell cases when you get warm. Frank
