I spent three afternoons playing hard in the field and found a few keepers.
A halfpenny, Indian head penny, Large token, three buttons, a cheap ring, civil war era harness buckle cover, and my first silver colored 10 guage casing.
When I found the large token I thought for sure it was another LC. Oh well--I will take it.
Thanks for looking and best luck to all. Merf

The token and the Half penny cleaned up well.
Too bad the IH is in such bad shape.

Merf, congrats on that large halfpenny. That sure counts for another large coppa for the year.

Did you tumble the large halfpenny? It looks awesome, man!

Thanks Kyle--It was sure a thrill to find it. --I tumbled it for about 2 hours with white aquarium gravel, 2 teaspoons of white vinegar and water. The token only took one hour.

That 1874 is a really good date. With full Liberty, that would have been worth a mint. As is, it is a neat example of a rare date Indian Head penny.

Another bittersweet metal detecting tale!

So true Plehbah---It is about the worst condition IH I have found----And the best date.

Thanks JRaven

Thanks MM-----What is great about field hunting is that it is easy digging with a small shovel.

That digging (soil) looks easy. I can't seem to find any fields like that around here, but I know they are plentiful around my home town in Northern Indiana. Great finds Merf.

Super nice finds....I also found a buckle like yours with the heart on it. Ive have seen them described on ebay as a civil war period 1861...1865 bed roll buckles by a couple different sellers. Does anyone know if this is true? Im just curious about the age and it use. I found mine about 6 inches down where a very old house once stood.

Thanks Undertaker----I found one last year that was bent up.
From what I have gathered and in my opinion they are harness buckle covers from the civil war era.
They could have been used as bed roll buckles but it might just be a selling gimick on E-Bay.
No one knows for sure.
