For those lying on a beach getting a tan, I laugh in your general direction :laughing7: But your probably not reading this & won't like my muddy field holiday anyway!

I timed this week off with the 'stubble' week, named because I don't shave for work, or maybe because I'm on the Wheat Stubble land :dontknow:

We drove 45 mins away (long journey for us) in the hope the Wheat would be in on one of our best chance fields. It wasn't :( So plan 'B' was a Roman site we discovered last year. We had 50 Roman Bronzes & 4 Roman Silver which at the time we thought was a lot ::) We had still not found the limits of this site, which we completed today. (we will hit the productive part another time)

13 Roman Scrappies
Medieval spur fittment (first complete example)
Medieval Lead Cloth Seal

Anglo-Saxon Small-long brooch - 6th C :o
Part of a Roman Brooch
Roman hook for a Steelyard Weight
Roman Iron Horses Head hook (glad I dig Iron now, I have only seen Bronze examples of these) ;D

Need IP's help on the circa 1780s Pewter Button - Crown on top, Starting bottom middle 'HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE' (well used motto). Looks like a Dragoon in centre?? Prince of Wales?? I have no idea but I love it & need it for the collection. (Iron loop missing)

2 Hammered, to break my draught (we only had 1 of this site before):
Mystery Shortcross, with Head right?? Strange one this, I'm trying for an ID.
Henry II 'Telby' Cut halfpenny - 1158-1180 - only my 2nd or 3rd :icon_thumright:

Great start to the holiday 8)

Unfortuntely my best guess at the motif on that button doesn't match the motto.

:hello:

Great finds

the hammered s/x looks Scottish :dontknow: could be Alexander11, that would be right facing bust :icon_scratch:

SS.
You said it had P on it :icon_scratch: that could be Moneyer, Piers, on Roxbrough :read2: same as mine(rare) :o

SS.

yeah, I know, its an odd one. There is a William II facing right, but I can see a W & those ones started P :icon_scratch: Maybe foriegn or imitation?
Here's one I found on our Villa field.

Could be, I thought of it, but the 'W' is confusing things, unless I'm just seeing things :dontknow:

PS. I hope it is, as I have none

No, I said the William II types started with a P instead of a W (which mine seems to start with)
Might be a William the Lion then :P

Doesn't match any I can find. I do need a scottish coin book for Xmas (I thinks), I'm starting to get a few now :icon_thumright:
Here's a right bust.
You were right, funny you mentioned the mint as well but under Alexander II :icon_thumright:

Scottish Short Cross and Stars coin of William the Lion,
Roxburgh, moneyers Peris Adam

Very pleased with this :icon_thumright:
