I have been hunting a farm field that has been good to me. Last Fall when I found it all I could seem to dig was buttons. A lot of buttons. I would dig 8 or 9 a trip. This year I found my first coin there.
It was part of a coin, I guess, a cut Large Cent. On the same hunt I gathered up an 1880 and a 1908 Indian. Today's hunt shows what I love about this place. I still got a button. How about my second Civil War cuff button from this field? I also found this strange, thin metal fellow who has been hanging around for over 100 years waiting for a ride home. The Flying Dutchman was a stick pin promotion put out by the Moline Plow Company. Mine is missing one wing and an ear of corn that was held above his head. When I found it I thought it was scrap or junk but after a bath, there he was. I also got a cool locket. There was nothing left inside or no engraving, but still cool. I can't wait to hit this place again.
