DesPlaines Silver Bob, Skinny Puppy and Mike (a new hunting pal we met at this site) and I were out hunting a local forest preserve that has seen action from serious pic-nic-ers since the early 1900's. Being passionate detectorists, we hunted the thistle-infested forest (following the deer trails) instead of the "wimpy" manicured grass areas that were infested with can-slaw and pop-tops. . . it paid off. . . well, at least for me. Early in the hunt, I found some old "beverage" glass (below) plus, assorted can lids that were in the final stages of disintegration (which I threw out).
After picking up all the old glass which I thought would be cool to photograph, I started hunting an area that was still under water from the snow melt. . . if I didn't hunt this area now, I wouldn't be able to hunt it until next spring. Anyway, it paid off. . . I found my FIRST Barber dime next to an old tree. The 1950 Wheat was found next to the remnants of an old home near the park.
Thanks for looking & HH!
